A vs. An

Also use A before letters and numbers which sound like they begin with a consonant, such as "U", "J", "1" or "9". Remember, it is the sound not the spelling which is important. For example, "1" is spelled O-N-E; however, it is pronounced "won" like it starts with a "W".

Examples:
That number is a "1". Sounds like "won".

Do you use An before a number?[2]:

If the number starts with a vowel sound, yes. It doesn't have to BE a vowel, but it has to have a vowel SOUND. Examples:

A one (one starts with a w sound so it is not a vowel SOUND)

Gevelka - No ale tam dalej jest liczba mnoga "a 100 miles". Przecież gdy ktoś ma 100 lat to NIE piszemy: He is a 100 years. To jak się to ma do tego co napisałeś? Ja sama nie wiem, czemu ma być tam "a".

Nie chodziło mi o problem A vs An - a większość odpowiedzi jest temu poświęcona.
Miałem na myśli właśnie to na co zwróciła uwagę Gevelka - po A jest liczba + LICZBA MNOGA.
Dzięki za odpowiedzi.

Mam odpowiedź (oczywiste - chwilowe zaciemnienie umysłu :)
W tym zdaniu A = ONE
Tzn. "a 100 miles an hour" = "one 100 miles an/per hour"

BTW @Galevlka - wiemy o tym że "mieć ileś lat" wyrażamy za pomocą BE ew. + OLD (a nie HAVE) - 10 lat temu

W tym zdaniu 'a' stoi przed liczbą sto , a przed sto zawsze musi stać ' a '.
Np.' a hundred people'.
