Could you tell me where the nearest post office is? Dlaczego w tym zdaniu "is" jest na końcu, a nie przed "where"?

poniewaz jest to tzw. pytanie pośrednie. W tych pytaniach na początku stosuje sie zwrot "grzecznościowy" np could you tell me...? do you know...? do you have any idea...? itp. i ta część ma formę pytającą. Wtedy druga cześć zdania musi mieć formę zdania twierdzącego.

gdyby nie było tu zwrotu "could you tell me", pytanie brzmiałoby "where is the nearest post office?"
