These recent efforts now assert that the molecule is synthesized in the vegetative mycelium and then translocated into the fruiting body.

They are supported by the vegetative mycelium containing uni- (or mono-) nucleate hyphae, which are sterile.

Hyphae are often collectively termed the mycelium; the food-absorbing part of the fungus-as opposed to the spore-producing fruit body of the fungus-is called the vegetative mycelium.

In the next stage, septae are established to limit the developing zygospore from the vegetative mycelium and in this way the zygophores become suspensor hyphae and gametangia are formed.
