There is extensive floating sweet-grass, with clumps of brooklime and water-pepper.

Areas of damp grassland contain marsh foxtail, floating sweet-grass, creeping bent and soft rush.

Meadow plants are represented by Plumbago, Achillea, wormwood, mallow and meadow sage and marsh plants by flowering rush, yellow flag iris, water mannagrass and common sweet flag, etc.

Some seeds usually made into gruel in historical times are acorn and manna grass (Glyceria fluitans).

Communities based on pure stands of Equisetum fluviatile, Cladium mariscus, Schoenoplectus lacustris, Scirpus maritimus, Eleocharis palustris, Phragmites australis, Phalaris arundinacea and Glyceria fluitans probably all occur in the Outer Hebrides.
